How to choose a reputable firm for Caribbean citizenship from the UAE

That is a blunt opening, but it is the honest state of the market, and it is the single most useful thing a family in Dubai or Abu Dhabi can know before they start. The good news is that checking someone’s credentials takes about ten minutes. Once you know what to ask for, unlicensed operators become very easy to spot.

Two agents, two jobs, and why both must be licensed

Every Grenada application runs through two separate licensed agents, and understanding the split is fundamental.

The marketing agent is the firm you find first and deal with day to day. That is us. A marketing agent must be licensed by the government of Grenada. Its job is to help you choose the right route and project, then help you assemble your file.

The local agent submits that file to the government of Grenada. Local agents are also licensed, and you and your marketing agent agree who that will be. Tandem works only with licensed local agents who are legal professionals: attorneys, solicitors or lawyers. The terminology may vary, but they are all expert professionals. Some local agents are not legal professionals; Tandem chooses to use only those who are.

The checks that take ten minutes

Ask any firm you are considering for three things. A firm with nothing to hide will send all three without hesitating.

1. A copy of the firm’s marketing agent licence from the government of Grenada.
2. A copy of its professional indemnity insurance. This is the document most people never think to request, and it is the most revealing. Carrying it is a condition of holding a licence in Grenada. If a firm cannot produce it, it may not hold the licence either. It also protects you if something goes wrong.
3. Its track record. Ask how many applications the firm has actually worked on, and over how long.

You can also check the government of Grenada’s own website, which lists the licensed agents. That list is the definitive answer to the question “is this firm real?” Look at everyone on it and choose the one that speaks to you.

The red flags, and there is really only one

Almost every warning sign in this industry is a variation of a single promise: that somebody can make this faster, cheaper or easier than the rules allow.

Be wary of anyone offering:

• A quick route to citizenship.
• A cut-price route, or a fee that undercuts everyone else by a distance.
• Any suggestion that they can work around the rules and regulations.
• Any hint that they can sidestep or soften the due diligence.

Grenada’s vetting is strict and thorough, and it is carried out by the government rather than by any agent. There are no shortcuts. When somebody offers you one, they are either lying to win your business or they intend to do something that will eventually land on you rather than on them. Walk away. Find a licensed marketing agent, ideally one in Grenada, and talk to them instead.

What a proper quote looks like

Here is a test that separates the professionals from the rest, and you can apply it on the first call.

A good marketing agent gives you every fee up front, in a single quote, before you decide anything. That quote should include the government fees, the marketing agent’s own fees, the local agent’s fees, bank charges and anything else you will be expected to pay along the way. One number, itemised, with nothing waiting to appear later.

Three firms, the same three questions

If a family in Dubai lined up three agencies and wanted to know which to trust, we would tell them to ask each one exactly the same things:

• May I see your marketing licence from the government of Grenada?
• May I see your professional indemnity insurance?
• How many applications have you helped with, and for how long have you been doing this?

Listen to how the answers arrive as much as to what they contain. The honest firm sends documents. The salesman explains why the documents are not necessary. Anything that sounds like a trick or a shortcut should be avoided.

Why being in Grenada matters more than being nearby

Our final recommendation is to work with somebody based in Grenada, or at least with a real office there, who knows the country and how it actually works.

Some of the biggest agencies in the world, based in Dubai, London or the Far East, still retain a company like Tandem to handle the Grenada end for them. They have to, because that is where the work happens. If you want to deal directly with the local firm rather than through a layer above it, you can, and it is perfectly normal.

If you would rather use an international agency, that is a legitimate choice too. Ask the same questions about Grenada: what are its credentials there, what relationships does it hold there, and who exactly is handling your application on the island? If we do not think you are, we will say so, explain why, and probably recommend that you do not start the application at all. There is no benefit to anyone in applying for something they will not be approved for.

You do not have to work this out on your own

Choosing a firm is the one part of this process where you are genuinely on your own, before anyone is representing you. Use the government’s list, ask for the licence and insurance, and trust the firm that answers plainly.

Once you have chosen, whoever that is, the burden should lift. A good agent takes the complexity off your desk and carries it. You should never be the one chasing requirements, decoding regulations or working out what a form means. That is the job you are paying for.
